ECMO, Hour 1
ECMO, Hour 1

In Our Noah Era

Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta saved the life of our then fifteen-month-old son Noah earlier this year. Noah was admitted to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta for flu A which caused him to go into respiratory failure. He was intubated and after several days on a ventilator suffered a significant pneumothorax (in layman’s terms, he had a hole in his lungs that was pouring air into his body which is a life-threatening condition). He was put on ECMO which is one of the highest risk procedures in medicine, to allow his lungs to completely collapse and heal. The ECMO pump did the work of his lungs by draining the blood from his tiny body, oxygenated it, and pumped it back in. We would have called it science fiction if we hadn’t seen it with our own eyes. We are thrilled to say say a total of 56 days in the hospital, including 14 gut-wrenching days on ECMO, a total of 25 days intubated, and a four week stay at inpatient rehab, Noah is home and is a perfectly healthy nineteen-month-old little boy. We know he would not have survived without Children's. We are honored to support their life-saving work, and thank you for joining us!
