Thank you for helping LPA reach our fundraising goal in support of Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.

As many of you know, CHOA is very dear to my heart. Particularly Egleston. We were privileged to host a blood drive earlier this year to commemorate my one year as a solo practitioner and to acknowledge that without the wonderful team at CHOA, I would not be here. Like millions of children before and since me, my life was saved thanks to the experienced and skillful hands at CHOA.

Since then, I have been regaled with tales of real-life heroes during that difficult time. From my mother who never left my side, to every staff member who hastened my recovery through their careful care, to every stranger, friend, and family member who made a blood donation for my ECMO treatment. All heroes.

When I finally recovered, I had to learn to walk and talk again. I remember concentrating just to bring a spoon to my mouth with control. I remember the torture of being unable to form the sounds that make up the words that I wanted to speak. As an adult, I am reminded of how difficult this was and I doubt very much whether I could go through such an ordeal again and marvel at the strength and bravery of children. Those children who fearlessly face uncertain odds and challenging treatment are all heroes.
