Meredith Brown Fund for Biliary Atresia Research
Thank you for joining us in our fight against biliary atresia. One hundred percent of the funds raised here to date have supported the research of Dr. Saul Karpen and his team at Emory University and Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. Our family and friends, other CHOA donors, and a local family trust committed to collectively raise $1 million by 2022 to fund biliary atresia research. We achieved that goal and Dr. Karpen made ground-breaking discoveries in his biliary atresia research. The work happening now could forever change the world of pediatric liver disease, and due to the major progress made by his team, he will be supported by the NIH moving forward. Our friends and family that have donated to us in the past have been a part of some truly amazing research!
Moving forward, we'll shift our research to projects that will impact Meredith's future and other patients just like her. Our next research project that we intend to fund is on a 24 hour drug. Right now, Meredith takes an immune suppression medication every 12 hours (Tacrolimus). It keeps her alive, so we're obviously not complaining about the drug, but a once-a-day medication would be so much more convenient! Dr. Nitika Gupta (medical director of the CHOA liver program) can hire a data analyst and complete the study for about $100K.
Meredith Brown is a survivor of biliary atresia and a liver transplant. When Meredith was diagnosed at 7 weeks old (March 31, 2017) with a rare pediatric liver disease, we heard the words "biliary atresia" along with “cause and cure unknown.” This fund is intended to honor Meredith’s courageous fight against the relentless disease of biliary atresia. There is far too little funding for and research of the disease, and that is unacceptable.

Thank you for joining us on our mission to defeat biliary atresia and honor our daughter, Meredith.
