Wesley Melville - BA Hero Fund
Thank you for helping me reach my fundraising goal in honor of Wes and in support of Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. Your contribution is greatly appreciated!
Wesley was diagnosed with Biliary Atresia, a rare pediatric liver disease, at 3 weeks old. After a major operation called the Kasai Procedure failed pretty immediately, Wes was listed for a liver transplant at just four months old. On May 10, 2018, at 5 months old, Wes' mother, Elizabeth, donated a portion of her liver to her young son. Today, he is thriving!
It is our family's heartfelt desire that something good would come from the pain our family endured as a result of this cruel disease — which is the leading cause of pediatric liver transplants. We are directing all monies raised to biliary atresia research being conducted now at Children's by Dr. Saul Karpen. We hope to one day find a cure for this disease. There is currently very little known about it. We pray no other family has to fear losing their young child to BA.
Blessings,
Jonathan, Liz, Nora and Wesley
