In honor of Sickle Cell Awareness month, we are fundraising to support research for this underfunded and too often overlooked disease.  Sickle Cell Disease is an inherited blood disorders affecting millions of people worldwide.  The disorder causes red blood cells to change shape or sickle.  Sickled red blood cells become hard and sticky, leading to countless complications.  Complications include debilitating pain, infection, acute chest syndrome, pulmonary hypertension, stroke, cerebrovascular disease, and more.  The only current cure for sickle cell disease is bone marrow transplant.
