Welcome to Team Toni For AFLAC Donation Page

Toni is a spunky 9 year old "princess" who loves the Arts and giving back!
In September 2012, Toni was born with Sickle Cell Disease - a genetic blood disorder that affects hemoglobin in red blood cells. Normal red blood cells are round and smooth; in sickle cell, the red blood cells are hard, sticky and crescent shaped which can lead to several health issues such as debilitating pain crisis and stroke. At 10 days old, Toni began receiving care at the Aflac Cancer & Blood Disorder Center at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.
On November 7, 2017, Toni underwent a Bone Marrow Transplant which is the only cure for Sickle Cell Disease. Her best friend and big sister, Tara was her donor. During this process, Toni could always count on the Childlife Specialists at Aflac for emotional support & care. The relationships began several weeks prior with dvds and demonstrations on dolls to help prepare her for pre-BMT procedures and continued after admission to keep her occupied during her post-BMT appointments. Toni's 5 weeks of admission while being isolated in the BMT unit was what she often describes as 'fun"!
The Childlife Specialists salaries are 100% donor based. They provide emotional support, arts supplies, teach musical instruments and engage in activities with the children. Without them being there for Toni, we are not sure how she would have handled the BMT process. For a 5 year old child to say she had fun during such a time speaks volumes to how much of an impact these services make.
Our goal is to raise $55,000, so we are asking family and friends to join us in raising funds for these wonderful angels, so that more children can describe what could be a traumatic experience as "fun"!
Thank you for helping us reach our fundraising goal in support of Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. Your contribution is greatly appreciated.
With much gratitude,
Tosin, Idunnu, Tara and Toni
