The library has expanded its purpose to provide more books for patients to take home. Having books at home, as many of our patients do not, is one of the keys to starting literacy on the right track and creating a positive relationship with reading. There is a direct correlation between literacy and poverty, and poor literacy also means poorer Health Literacy and the ability for our patients to care for themselves and extend their life expectancy.

In order to keep books that the patients truly love and are interesting, enjoyable, and approachable, we need to have more storage. We keep several books in a series and try to meet a wide variety of interests. A new bookshelf would be a huge help for storing and displaying these books for our patients. Our current book shelf isn't a good use of space, has very limited shelving, and doesn't blend into the library.
