GIRLFRIENDS GROUP INFORMATION
girlFriends is the high school volunteer organization serving Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. The group is solely
student run by a high school leadership board, comprising girls representing high schools all over the greater
Atlanta area. The leadership board is selected based on an application and interview process and students serve
yearlong terms. Adult volunteer advisors and Children’s representatives oversee the girls and help provide
leadership training and practical applications.
girlFriends hosts monthly general membership meetings with nearly 100 girls in attendance each meeting. During these
meetings, students have the opportunity to hear from Children's patients, staff and other informative speakers. In
addition to speakers, monthly meetings include activities such as jewelry kit assembly for the hospitals, fitness
classes, special holiday activities and toy, clothing and toiletry drives.
girlFriends are involved in several fundraising and other volunteer activities benefiting Children’s
Healthcare of Atlanta. The girls have planned and hosted several patient parties in the hospitals; held a teenage
gift drive for the hospital patients and provided items for stockings, goody bags, and toiletry bags for families in
the hospital. Each year, girlFriends help with service projects, plan for and decorate mailboxes in the Friends
Holiday Mailbox Brigade, and plan their annual fundraising event, girlFriends Powderpuff.
